Lollipop Utopia

Lollipop Utopia is a reflective response to my previous publications, Day Mundane (2017) and Popsicle District (2020), that offer a peculiar and yet unique perspective of Singapore, a foreign city I grew to love. It documents a saturated aesthetic of the urban landscape, where my visual interpretation of Singapore expands beyond reality through ‘risograph’—a printing technique known for its vivid palettes. The outcome is so awesomely ridiculous, it creates an illusion of a polychromatic lollipop utopia.

Through graphical composition, I choose to highlight the unexplored details and aspects in which the urban structures, textures and colours collectively complement each other. This minimalist vision also brings together a metaphorical perception of a lollipop utopia where vivid aesthetics are uncovered by eliminating the noticeable details, typically associated with Singapore.
