Paknam Popsicle District
In Paknam Popsicle District, Thai artist Wuthipol Ujathammarat attempts to fabricate a punchy and peculiar visual series of his hometown—Samutprakarn, locally nicknamed Paknam—in a work that artistically curates a bizarre framing of urban mundane and palettes beyond their existence. It documents a fantasised aesthetic of urban landscape where his visual expression graphically escorts a flavourful imagination upon photographic manipulation.
Through graphical composition of urban spaces, the artist chooses to detail the unexplored aspects and emphasise on the rhymes of which the colours and textures are superbly lined up. By stripping down the noticeable details within its visual complexity, a hidden pattern of vivid aesthetics can be uncovered in countless aspects as the artist precisely frames them to perfection. His minimalist vision also brings together a visual metaphorical perception of an urban popsicle that is typically familiar and yet rare to take notice in Paknam.
